Nicolas was the one I chose to keep
from Cory's first litter - however this was not to be.
At Nickey's first Easter and after we had had our Easter Lunch, Nickey,
still being a big puppy, playful and nosy reached out for something
onthe coffe table and his frontleg got stuck and it snapped ... it broke,
just like that -
Poor Nickey and off to the vet, who put his frontleg in a cast.
As there where 2 litters that year and the other litter was younger than
Nickey, he amused himself by terrorising the younger ones with his cast, i.e.
banging them on the head and so on - a real hooligan.
However, behaviour like this is never forgotten and when the time came for
the cast to come off, Nickey's now mended leg was weak like an asparegas (the
vegetable) ... The pups he had terrorised now ganged up on him for revenge
and as he was unable to fend for himself, we sadly had to find a new
home for him, as all our dogs lived together and I have never had kennels.
Mrs Pihl, whos son, Torkil Pihl had owned 2 of my basenjis, was
interested in giving Nickey a home which we were very grateful for.
Nickey's leg mended nicely and he went to 4 shows in 1984 and became
Danish Champion.
At his last show in Hillerød, where he also became Best of breed and had to go
in the group, judged by the late Mr. M.M. Madsen, Tina showed Nickey who was not
happy so Mr. Madsen excused Nickey - Tina then let go of the lead with Nickey
standing on the table !?
I had to rush into the ring and get him down and out of the ring
........ Tina was never a good looser, but sometimes it could be a
bit too much and I always had to pick up the pieces - Be that as it may, Nickey
had become Danish Champion and that was the end of his showcareer in Hillerød,
which I think both Nickey and Mrs Pihl were quite happy for ....
Nickey had a good life and lived to be 13 years of age
